In a history spanning more than 100 years, Sweetings has only ever been owned by six parties, the most recent taking over in 2001. A City of London institution, its time-honoured offering – served exclusively on weekday lunchtime – comprises fried, grilled or poached fish, along with a handful of traditional starters and desserts. The restaurant prides itself on its sustainable sourcing, from wild Scottish salmon, usually the first of the season, to West Mersea oysters from the Essex coast. Neither post-prandial coffees or teas are served, brandy or vintage port being the digestif of choice.
