The Public House

Taipei, Taiwan

The Public House is – as the name suggests – an ode to the good old British boozer. But instead of warm wine and flat lager they're churning out some fantastic craft cocktails. Founder William Wu previously made his name at Taipei institutions Le Petite Chambre and Side Bar before opening up his own venture, which immediately shot to No.68 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2022. Drinks start with a Gin & Tonic, which could feel British but is made in the perfectionist Ginza style, complete with hand-carved ice, then move on to signature cocktails, of which there are five (imaginatively called Public#1-#5, alongside a selection of classics. This is a place to while away a whole evening and come out blinking into the dawn when it finally closes at 4am -- frankly there aren't enough places like it.
