Béni

Singapore, Singapore

With its formal service, slightly sombre decor and setting in the Mandarin Gallery shopping centre, Béni – meaning ‘blessing’ – makes it clear that eating out is all about the food, at least in chef Kenji Yamanaka’s eyes. Unsurprisingly therefore, the food is dazzling: weekly-changing menus showcase Yamanaka’s passion for French fine dining (honed over his years working at top kitchens in France) and for the natural larder of his motherland, Japan. The result is innovative Japanese versions of classic Gallic plates, alongside a cellar that’s equally well-stocked with French wines and sakes. The house specialty of butter-soft Ozaki A5 Wagyu Beef from Miyazaki prefecture is a must.
