Green! Sustainable! Energy Efficient! These are the words and phrases we see time and again in our home improvement stores. The environmentally conscious world we live in makes earth friendly green products desirable. The marketers know this and are sure to slap green and sustainable labels on everything as often as possible. Certainly, understanding the effect one has on the environment is a good thing. Conserving resources is a responsibility we all have. Plus, energy efficiency can save you money in monthly bills. Caveat Emptor. Let the green buyer beware. How can we sift through the propaganda and glittering generalities and find out what’s real and important?
The most expensive type of renewable energy sources out there to create is known as hydropower. Hopefully we can find a way to benefit from it for a lower cost. Since so much of the surface of the Earth is covered with water it would be wonderful to be able to take advantage of creating energy from it. Since it is so expensive though it only contributes to about 7% of the total energy created in the United States.
Mention a solar power farm and many people picture a field of solar panels. This is incorrect in most cases. Instead, one gets a field of mirrors. The mirrors are controlled by a computer system. They are tilted at different angles to do just one thing. They redirect light to the top section of a tower placed in the middle of the mirrors. This section is filled with a large amount of a salt mixture.
If you are a keen enthusiast on environment protection, you can be sure of unsustainable power. If you are ready for a little alteration of your life style you will be a real success. The first and foremost will be the solar panels. If you are living in a place where the solar rays are plenty and your roof can support the installation of solar panels you are the appropriate person for this. If you can balance the consumption of power from the grid and from the solar panels, there are avenues that you can feed back some of your excess power back to the grid. They will reward you for this gesture.
The fourth technique is bio-gas. Bio-gas is produced naturally via the decomposition of different biological material. This can be from animals and from humans. Farmers can successfully use this method to produce bio-gas. The bio-gas can be used for heating a home or can even be used to cook. This form of alternative energy is also not commonly used inside the city area.
The active method uses solar energy to produce hot water for central heating. The hot water can also be used for running hot water, the washing machine and dishwasher. The efficiency by which we are now able to convert solar power into electricity and hot water is of such a degree that it is very possible to power a whole house and use for central heating!
Being able to use renewable energy sources out there is vital to the future of our world. We can’t continue to use up the resources we have now and not understand how that will affect us in the future. Changes need to start now so that we can continue to have what we need without destroying the Earth. The fact that renewable energy sources can be expensive to implement on a large scale though often hinders such success.
